Temporary Guardianship of Minor Children Agreement

Last Updated: 4/20/2015

Document Description

Your children are more important to you than life itself, but sometimes they need the care and guardianship of another person when you cannot be there to care for them. Whether an extended absence, illness or unforeseen circumstance, this Temporary Guardianship of Minor Children Agreement will authorize another adult or adults to assume legal responsibility and make parenting decisions for a certain period of time.

This document is not a substitute for a last will and testament, which specifies who should assume permanent guardianship of your minor children, in the event of your death.

The powers bestowed by this document include authorization to make medical care decisions, financial decisions, education decisions, travel decisions and other standard responsibilities for the care of minor children. This Temporary Guardianship Agreement is editable, and can be modified to meet your exact needs.

The Agreement also allows you to specify how the children's care will be funded, so that the temporary guardians have adequate financial resources to care for the children properly.

Once signed, copies of this document should be distributed to all interested parties, including the temporary guardians, other close family members and anyone else who may have a guardian interest in the children's well being. Under no circumstances should this document be used unilaterally by one parent against the other parent's interests or knowledge.
